Hears an introduction for babies to the wonderful mishmash world of sounds。 Listen to the cow's moo, the frying eggs' sizzle, and the thunder's boom boom boom。 There are plenty of noises for everyone!
"Mr。 Brown Can Moo。 Can you?" By Dr。 Seuss is a great children's book to teach children how to make different sounds。 My favorite part is when Mr。 Brown makes himself sound like a butterfly。 It is a very interesting noise, but I like it。 I would recommend reading this book to children 2-5。 "Mr。 Brown Can Moo。 Can you?" Can You? has a fairly straightforward premise, as suggested by the title。 Rather than exploring the thoughts, motives, and consequences of the titular Mr。 Brown's mimicking of animals (and inanimate objects), the narrator challenges the reader to do so as well。 While on first read one may consider Mr。 Brown a flat character, the ambiguity of his motives add layers to the narrative。 Why would a man impersonate a cow, a bee, AND lightning? Where is he in the world with hippos, horses, and kissing fish? The more one reads, the more one questions why Mr。 Brown is engaging with these sounds。 Has he resorted to imitation to avoid finding his own voice? Or does he feel liberated in the words of others, like an actor of sorts? Taking another step back, the reader then questions whether they should imitate the noises。 Seuss makes some interesting choices with his onomatopoeiatic spelling ("dibble dibble dopp dopp" for rain and "splatt" for lightning stand out)。 What is the joy in repeating these sounds? Why do we find pleasure in imitation? The narrator seems to winkingly know, but doesn't (or can't) explain it to us。As far as early reader books go, this one is quite enjoyable to read。 Seuss's other early reader books tend to have a few bolder choices, though this certainly isn't dull and doesn't overstay its welcome。 As the bb gets older, it will likely get more fun to read as she will be able to meet the challenge of the narrator。 For now, I can imagine reading it four times in a night before tiring of it, thus four stars。 。。。more

Mary,
Another winner from Dr。 Seuss。 My 7 year old granddaughter was able to read this easily so it was especially fun。 Leave it to Seuss to keep the story moving, silly and great illustrations。 We loved it。
Rich Farrell,
I saw that this was in the same Beginning Readers series and thought I’d give it a shot for E。‘s bedtime reading。 This was a lot of fun with good interactive parts and repetition。 I’ll keep this one in mind as he grows older。
Tomi Rues,
I had this book memorized because I read it so often to my daughter when she was a baby。 She is 21 now and studying to be a Reading Instructional Specialist! I'm not saying the book was the reason but I will say that the words are fun to read and the sounds are fun to make。 This book is a gem! A very fun Dr。 Seuss book demonstrating onomatopoeia for little ones。Mama wasn't certain about lightning going "splatt,"but after some consideration, she's on board with that。 A very fun Dr。 Seuss book demonstrating onomatopoeia for little ones。Mama wasn't certain about lightning going "splatt,"but after some consideration, she's on board with that。 。。。more

Laney Anne,
This book was a bit easy for my class。 They had a very easy time understanding it。 But, it was very fun to read with the students。 They had a great time doing the sounds and following along。 This is also a great story for them to read independently because it was rather easy。 I have one student who chooses this story every time they are reading by themselves。
